After a driver hits you on a bike, you need answers quickly. What will your injuries cost and who will pay for them? The first bills rarely show the full price, and the insurance company’s first answer is often not its final answer.
Attorney Scott Best has practiced for more than 20 years in Kentucky and Ohio, and he serves Union cyclists as their bicycle accident lawyer. Scott knows firsthand what it’s like to be hurt in an accident and why fighting for a fair recovery is so important.
We work out our clients’ full costs before we negotiate with the insurance company. Use our contact form to tell us what happened to you and to schedule a free consultation.

We take bicycle cases from across Union, including crashes on Mt. Zion Road, Old Union Road, Frogtown Road, and Gunpowder Road. Each type raises a different question about who is at fault, so we start with where and how it happened. These are some of the crashes we handle:
If your crash happened on a different Union road or in a different way, we still want to hear about it.
Adjusters may look for reasons to pay less, and after a bike crash the easiest reason is blame. They may ask if you swerved, rode too far into the lane, or had your lights on.
Kentucky has a pure comparative fault law(KRS 411.182). This means you may still recover money even if you share some of the blame. Your award is then reduced by your percentage of fault. For example, if 20% of the fault lands on you, a $50,000 claim becomes $40,000.
Anything you say to an adjuster can be used to assign blame, so we take over those calls for our clients. Contact us before you give a statement.

Not every case is the same, but this is generally what happens in our bike injury cases:
You do not need every answer before you reach out. The consultation is where we start.
Our office is at 73 Cavalier Blvd, Suite 316 in Florence, in the same county as Union. Scott Best is available 24 hours a day and will come to you if you cannot travel. If a lawsuit becomes necessary, it is usually filed at the Boone County Justice Center in Burlington.
You may recover lost income and future treatment costs. If your injuries meet Kentucky’s no-fault thresholds, you may also recover pain and suffering. Your damaged bike, helmet, and gear may count too. Keep the receipts and the broken gear. Send us a list and we will review every item and add what applies to your claim.
You can give your name and contact details. You are generally not required to give the driver’s insurer a recorded statement. Adjusters can use those statements to assign blame, and it is hard to take your words back. Contact us first and we will handle the call.
You may still have coverage. Your own auto policy may include uninsured motorist coverage, and other sources of payment may exist. Report the crash right away, and tell us the date and place. We will check every policy that could apply.
You pay no attorney fee unless we recover money for you, and the first consultation is free. Court costs and case expenses may be billed. Scott Best Law is available 24 hours a day, so you can reach out the day of the crash. We will explain the fee agreement before you decide anything.
The timeline depends on your treatment. A claim should not be valued until your doctors know how your recovery will end, because a settlement signed early usually cannot be reopened. Claims that need a lawsuit usually take longer than claims that settle with the insurer. We will tell you what to expect once we see your records.
The driver’s auto insurance generally pays up to $10,000 toward a cyclist’s medical bills and some lost income, no matter who caused the crash.
Kentucky sets a time limit for injury claims. In many car-crash cases, you have two years from the injury or from the last no-fault payment, whichever is later. Some cases have shorter limits.
